Our story

RIUM is born from a family story.
Grandfather Nelso was from Sottocastello di Cadore: an Alpine soldier, forest ranger, a man of the mountains. Work brought him to Sicily, where he met grandmother Sebastiana and built his family. This house was our summer meeting place, the spot to return to every year with children and grandchildren.

RIUM is the name our mother Luisa chose for this house: the initials of her children, Rita and Umberto. A gesture of love that we never knew would one day give a name to all of this.

Our father Roberto is our MacGyver: he solves any maintenance issue from any distance, at any time. Mamma handles the bureaucratic side: she is the legal owner and the organisational heart of the family. We children take care of hospitality and communication with our guests.

Since we can't be here all year, we chose to open the house to those who want to experience what we experienced: slow mountain mornings, the lake below the balcony, homemade sweets freshly arrived from Sicily.
