The local public transport service covers the entire province of Belluno. The closest stop is in Pieve di Cadore (1 km), with connections to Auronzo, Calalzo, Dobbiaco and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Bike and E-Bike Rental

Cadore is a paradise for cyclists. With an e-bike you can reach Lake Centro Cadore (the one you see from the balcony!), Pieve di Cadore and the panoramic trails effortlessly. The closest rental is Officina 33, in Tai di Cadore.

Car Rental

A car is the best choice for exploring the Dolomites in total freedom. Car rental isn't available in Pieve, but in Calalzo (less than 4 km) and at Venice or Treviso airport you'll find the major agencies. Compare prices online before leaving.

On Foot

Sottocastello is literally minutes from Pieve di Cadore. On foot you can reach the historic centre, shops, bars and start out on hiking trails without using the car.

Train · Calalzo Station

The closest railway station is Calalzo di Cadore, less than 4 km away. From there trains depart for Venice and Belluno: a convenient starting or ending point for your trip. There's also a panoramic cycle-pedestrian path connecting the station directly to Sottocastello.

What you won't find
on Google Maps

In winter: snow tyres

From November to April winter tyres (or carrying chains) are mandatory on many roads in Cadore and towards Cortina. If you rent a car, check that they're already fitted.

Free parking below the house

The apartment has free public parking directly under the building. No booking needed: availability is always good even in high season.

Fill up before evening

Petrol stations in the area can be poorly served at night. We recommend filling up at the Pieve di Cadore station before 20:00, especially on weekends.

SS51 to Cortina

The main road to Cortina d'Ampezzo is the SS51. Very beautiful and panoramic, it can however slow down in high season. Leave early in the morning to avoid summer traffic.

The essential apps

Google Maps / Waze work well throughout the area. For excursions and trails: Wikiloc (Pieve di Cadore GPS routes), Komoot (interactive maps), AllTrails. Download offline maps before leaving: at altitude signal can be missing.

The Lunga Via delle Dolomiti is magnificent

The cycle path from Pieve/Sottocastello to Cortina (34 km) was built on the route of a historic railway closed in 1964. Tunnels, bridges, Tofane and Pelmo as backdrop. For the return: Dolomiti Bus with bike transport included.
